For Nastasja Dorandi, philosophy is not a subject to be taught but a path to be walked — and she walks it through the original dialogues themselves.

a man

Nastasja has been on the path of true philosophy since a very early age, a path that has shaped her own deep philosophical journey. During her perennial, spiritual, and philosophical pursuits, she has consistently searched through and explored primary sources. In this theological, metaphysical, and philosophical quest, she explored within her own self without any formal “formula” to follow. Her search was real, soul-bound, and a self-onward journey, venturing into various traditions in her pursuit of truth, wisdom, what is most real, and how ideas (concepts) and Idea (from idein, “to see” or “to behold”) take hold within a society and within ourselves. Nastasja is not a teacher, guide, or mentor. She holds that if a true philosopher wants a teacher or guide, that role must be self-chosen, never imposed by another -- there is no qualified teacher other than one’s own higher self. Among those she chose to study with was Pierre Grimes, Ph.D., of the Noetic Society; they were close friends, and she studied extensively with him. She continues her personal, self-directed studies and chooses to study with the Prometheus Trust, based in the UK. True to this philosophy, she accepts no honorarium for her time. She asks participants to read the text in advance so that everyone can engage in meaningful exploration and dialogue.

A Symposium: Plato's First Alcibiades

February 27, 2027

Four Saturdays · February 27, May 29, August 28 & December 4, 2027 · 1:00–3:00 p.m. · In the garden, weather permitting. Please read the text in advance. The goal is to discover and enter into the divine play of dialectic: holding questions, working through puzzles, and knitting together the Ideas. This is the activity of philosophy itself, a form of Jnana yoga and true philosophical practice in the soul’s ascent toward excellence. Plato’s First Alcibiades was regarded in late antiquity as the standard introduction to his dialogues because it addresses the fundamental question of the nature of the self. Only through self-knowledge can we understand the perspective from which we apprehend reality and discover what brings true fulfilment and happiness. Its inquiry into self-knowledge remains as important today as it was in antiquity. Text: Know Thyself: Plato’s First Alcibiades and Commentary.
